Songs That Helped You Discover a Language

Music can be an incredibly powerful way to discover new languages.

For me, one early example came from listening to Ill Niño. Songs like “What Comes Around” blend Spanish and English, and even though it may not have been the most academic way to learn, I realized that the music actually helped me remember a handful of Spanish words simply because I heard them repeatedly in songs I enjoyed.

It might not have been the most formal language lesson, but it proved something important to me:

Music can be an extremely powerful tool for remembering words and phrases.

That idea is one of the reasons Lingual Jams exists in the first place.

I’m sure many fellow Jammers have had similar experiences where a song introduced them to a new language or helped them remember certain words.

    So I’m curious:

What songs helped you discover or remember a language?

    And looking ahead:

What languages would you like to see added to Lingual Jams in the future?

Once the community grows to around 100 members, we plan to run live polls so the Guild can vote on which languages to focus on next. We want those decisions to reflect the community as a whole rather than just a handful of voices.

Some languages may be more challenging to build content for than others, but as more linguists and teachers join the Guild, I say:

    Let’s bring them on.
