Oh man, this is one of my favorite things to share with people.

I absolutely love introducing world and international music to anyone who is open to exploring it. Some of these artists are bilingual, and some simply perform in other languages, but the sheer variety of sounds and voices you can discover if you give them a chance is amazing.

The first international band I really fell in love with was Ill Niño, a Nu-Metal / Heavy Metal band that blends both English and Spanish.

I loved the chunky guitars, the mixture of harsh and melodic vocals, and the incredible use of bongos and Latin percussion wrapped inside heavy metal. It created this raw, emotional sound that felt completely different from most bands I had heard before.

On the complete opposite end of the musical spectrum, I also fell in love with the music of Origa, a pop / operatic vocalist. She was actually my first introduction to music that blended multiple languages, including Japanese, Russian, and English. Her music was featured in the anime Ghost in the Shell, and to this day when I listen to her songs they still give me chills.

A few more international artists I really enjoy include:

    • Wardruna
    • Maïa Barouh
    • Flèche Love
    • Coals
    • Lido Pimienta

Most of the metal bands I listen to still sing primarily in English, so I wish I had even more examples to share right now. But there are so many incredible musicians around the world, and discovering them can be one of the most exciting parts of exploring different cultures.

What bilingual or international artists do you enjoy listening to?
